About This Site
Trusted Senior Dog Joint is written for people whose dog has slowed down but still wants to be part of everything. We cover the things that make daily life easier on aging hips and elbows: joint supplements, fish oil, orthopedic beds, folding ramps for getting into the car, and lift harnesses for stairs and trails. Every piece is written from real use with an older dog, and none of it replaces your vet.

Senior Dog Safety
Nothing on this site is veterinary advice. Limping, stiffness or a reluctance to move can come from arthritis, but they can also come from injury, a torn ligament, a spinal problem, infection or cancer. Have your vet examine your dog before you start any supplement or change their exercise, and go back if things get worse or change suddenly.
Joint supplements and fish oil are not risk free. Follow the label and your vet on dose, introduce anything new slowly, and watch for vomiting, loose stools or itching. Fish oil can thin the blood, so tell your vet before surgery or if your dog takes anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medication. Never give your dog human pain relievers such as ibuprofen, naproxen or acetaminophen, which can be poisonous to dogs.
Ramps, harnesses and beds only help when they fit. Set a ramp on a stable surface at a gentle angle, lock it fully open, and teach your dog to use it on leash before you rely on it. Check that a lift harness sits clear of the belly and genitals and does not rub, and never lift a large dog alone if it strains your back. Keep an older dog out of hot parked cars, give them shade and water on trips, and shorten walks on hot or icy days.
